Lauren’s journey begins in the arts, as a graphic designer in Toronto, Canada. Over her 10+ years in the industry, she cultivated a strong design aesthetic and honed her skills for composition, balance, and colour. During those busy and colourful years, she had the pleasure to work with some amazing studios full of incredibly talented designers — even winning some awards for herself along the way. Art and design has always been her home — a place where she could express herself and take joy in creating a more beautiful and colourful world. But despite this, she couldn’t help but feel drawn to the sugary side of life.
After much soul searching and many late nights of after work baking, Lauren decided to go back to school. She attended the Bonnie Gordon School of Confectionary Arts to study cake design and graduated with honours. Her life as a cake artist had truly begun.
Lauren has been working in the wedding industry for over 6 years, on both the graphic design and cake design side. As a graphic designer, she was a part of the incredibly talented team at WedLuxe, a luxury wedding media brand based in Toronto, Canada. Being a part of this wonderfully creative and innovative team was a true highlight for Lauren and her burgeoning career in the wedding industry.
It was at this time that she was yearning to move back to Scotland, where she had lived a few years prior. So in 2017, knowing that she could make her mark in Edinburgh with her unique style, she made the decision with her husband to move back to Scotland and begin her life as a full-time cake designer.
Butter & Bodoni is a culmination of all of Lauren’s experiences and creative endeavours. Her passion is creating bespoke, design-driven cakes and confections for the modern, creative couple.
